XENIA CUMENTO
OPERA SINGER | MUSICAL PERFORMER
A B O U T M E
Ever since I was young, the arts played a very significant role of my life. At the age of 5, I started with ballet and tap dance. I would dance around the house singing songs from musicals and putting on shows for my family. Then, after watching Michael Flatley's "Lord of the Dance", I begged my parents to enroll me in an Irish step dance class, where I danced competitively for 9 years. Being active in practically every performing arts club in and out of school including orchestra (playing violin), chorus, drama club, dance classes and singing in a choir, I realized I was never happier than when I was performing. As I grew, my passion for the arts did as well. I felt this ambition to pursue a career in the performing arts and that is exactly what I set out to do.
After completing my bachelor's degree at the Crane School of Music in New York, I decided to move to Germany to start my career as an opera singer. There was no real plan; I did a summer program, enrolled in a German course, took some masterclasses, and met other singers who were on their own career journeys. I then decided to apply for a master's program at the University of Arts in Berlin, where I was given the opportunity to work on my technique, improve my acting skills, and become an overall better performer. After that, I received a position in the opera studio at Landestheater Detmold for two years gaining experience and building my repertoire. I auditioned for Theater Kiel in 2022 and have been performing as a member of the ensemble there ever since.
Who knows where my journey will take me next but I am looking forward to finding out! And the young me, who always dreamed about becoming a professional performer, can be proud.
